Hi lovelies,

This is a makeup story tag that I saw going around youtube a few months ago. I first saw the beautiful Alexis from AlexisKaymor do this tag on her youtube channel, and I was inspired to do this tag but in  a “blog style”. I thought that this would be a cute way for you guys to get to know a little bit about my love for makeup and all things beauty related.

  • How old were you when you started wearing makeup?

I started wearing makeup shortly after I turned 15. I started just wearing a simple rim of black eyeliner and nothing else besides blistex lol.

  • How did you first get into makeup?

As I mentioned above, I got into makeup at about 15 years old. My older sister, who is also very much into makeup, managed to have a makeup artist come to my home and give classes to several women. This makeup artist worked in Macys 34th street (NYC) MAC counter at the time. Since the classes were given in my home, and I was so young, I was able to watch and participate for free 🙂 . Thats where my passion and love for makeup all started.

  • What are your favorite makeup brands?

This is a very hard question. I will have to narrow it down to my top 4. In no particular order: MAKE UP FOR EVER, Anastasia Beverly Hills, NARS, and Urban Decay.

  • What does makeup mean to you?

Makeup is a way to express your individuality, for most of those who like it. For me its much more than just a simple expression of a mood or style. I believe that the face is a walking canvas, making it a very beautiful work of art.

  • If you can wear only 5 products on your face what would they be?

If i can wear only 5 products on my face I would wear eyebrow pencil, concealer, mascara, blush/bronzer, and a moisturizing/hydrating lip balm.

  • What is your favorite thing about makeup?

My absolute favorite thing about makeup (or being a makeup artist in my case) is seeing a persons beauty being amplified, whether its by creating a natural look or a dramatic one. its the confidence that automatically exudes the client by enhancing their features, making them feel beautiful, w hen they probably weren’t able to see that beauty within themselves. as sad as it sounds, studies show that only 4% of women wake up feeling beautiful, my job is making sure not only looking beautiful but feeling beautiful and confident as well. I feel that is the most precious thing you can make a client feel.

  • What do you think about drug store makeup versus high end?

There are always amazing finds at the drugstore. you can find great products, whether you’re a pro or a beginner. High end products usually pay greater attention to detail, for example packaging, and possibly being formulated with better ingredients and formulas. It’s all about research. There are even times where drugstore products are better than high end. And who doesn’t love a good  buy.

  • What tip of advice would you give a beginner?

PRATICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!!! Also you must invest in good tools. Practicing and having good tools will make  a world of difference. When I first attempted doing winged eyeliner or cat eye, it looked very similar to Amy Whinehouse’s signature look. By practicing I’ve learned to adjust and perfect it to suit different eye looks and eye shapes. Lastly, JUST HAVE FUN WITH IT! There’s a saying “Learn the rules like a pro, to break them as an artist”. I love it.

  • One makeup trend you never understood?

There isn’t anything I didn’t really understand. Let’s be honest, to each their own. What may be in style may not and will not be for everyone. Like most trends, they all have their rise and then they fall. Trick is finding what works for you. Don’t be afraid to experiment. Try new looks and different techniques. You’ll be surprised what you may end up liking.

Until next time,
